The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
